This is a video on how to construct a Debris Hut. The hut is widely used in survival situations, but it could also be used as a storage facility by campers. Can defianately be put together in under an hour, anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. It is only advised to build such a hut if the correct materials are nearby(leaves, sticks, branches,). You could use equipment to help further the hut, eg rope can be used to attach the main frame and the use of an axe means you dont have to go looking for specific sized sticks. Part 1.

Camping is a lot of entertaining, and a great family activity. However, many people can be frightened by camping and disinclined to attempt it. Camping can be as rural and carefree as you like, but if you are just starting out, you can feel convinced in knowing that camping is also a safe and fun way to spend a vocation. If you have never camp out before, you may not have all the essential equipment. You should have to spend a lot of money to get started though, as many camping and outside supply stores rent tents, sleeping bags and also back packs. The equipment that you need is actually basic for a vocation camping trip. You will need a tent large enough for everybody, sleeping bags and some cloths etc. Also you should have food for three meals plus two refreshments for each day that you will be gone. Large plastic storage bag made especially for camping are available, but you can also use plastic boxes with tight fitting covers if you plan to keep the food in your car. You will probably want to pack food that is much simple to prepare and eat, such as a loaf of bread, tuna, and granola bars etc. You may also like to try some of the canned meals such as roast beef hash. These can be heated up in a small pot over your campfire. Speaking of saucepans, you will want to take one along and a frying pan also, along with a carving knife and eating tackle. A fundamental first aid kit should be prepared and taken along with you. It should contain a variety of adhesive bandages, antibiotic ointment, moleskin, Calamine lotion, sunscreen, and a painkiller. Any recommendation medicine that is needed by family members should also be taken along. Each camper should also have a pack or small doze sack to carry a snack and water in for hikes and outing away from the camp. If you are going to be at an admired campground, it would not hurt to call ahead and keep a spot. Once you get to the site you should pay for your spot and get guidelines to it. Once you are there, ensure how close you are to the restroom, water supply, and firewood. Now you are ready to take out and set up your tent. Unless you are in a dry climate, you will probably want to bring along a canvas or piece of plastic to set on the ground under your tent. This layer between you and the ground can make the difference between a happy night and a moist sleepless night.

Here’s my summer bug out bag contents. I neglected to mention that I have a space blanket, poncho and fishing gear kit in the bag as well. As the seasons change, so do the contents of my BOB. For colder weather I added a sleeping bag, wool socks, balaclava, wool scarf, and more.

Here’s me testing my bug out bag in the ravine behind my house. My pack has some survival essentials including a poncho, knives, folding saw, dehydrated food, canteen and cup, mosquito jacket, headlamp, first aid kit, hygiene kit and more. For this camp-out, I’m using the poncho as a sleeping bag by snapping the sides together. I added about 6″ of natural insulation under the poncho, which made sleeping on the ground very comfortable. I was harassed by mosquitoes ALL night, and didn’t sleep well. The little flying devils actually bit through the bug jacket I was wearing. The poncho kept me dry from the dew and rain that made it through the tree canopy. A bug bar, aka mosquito net, will be going into my bug out bag as soon as I get home tonight. I can’t imagine what my night would have been like without the bug jacket. Overall the gear worked well by keeping me dry and mostly protected from insects. I’ll be adding a bug bar to my kit for warm months. Thanks for watching, please leave a comment and rating.

If you live in an urban setting, what kind of outdoor survival gear can you put together that will help you in an emergency situation? When you start to put a kit together, the first things you should consider are safety items. Do you live or work in a very large city with mostly high rise buildings or are you in a much smaller environment. Where you live and the environment around you can dictate what you should carry.
If you are in a city that is in an earthquake zone, put together a set of tools that may help you get out of a collapsed building or help others escape. Have some safety glasses you could put on and a dust mask to wear to avoid breathing it all the dust. Get yourself a small pry bar for prying debris out of the way and maybe a good pair of linesman pliers that could cut fence so you won’t have to go around it to get away. Think of other items you could use based on your most likely scenario.
On a general note, if you are trying to make your way through a city and the utilities are shut down and you need water what can you do? First thing is have some water as part of your survival gear. There’s sure to be ponds or lakes around maybe in a city park, or there could be puddles of water from rain. If you had a water filter your problem could be solved. There are small filters available you could carry with your kit or even get one of those straw type water filters. Also check into water purification tablets which are very effective.
You should also look into getting one of those tools that’s actually called a key that you can use to turn on water at outside faucets that don’t have a handle on them. You can get them at hardware stores and this would enable you to get water from commercial buildings. Aside from safety considerations, you should absolutely make sure you will have drinking water taken care of.

When I was teen camping equipment consisted mainly of a backpack to carry supplies, a sleeping bag, and a tent. Of course we always camped at the same old spots most of the time. Today people have more diverse interest than just building a campfire and doing a little fishing. People now hike, backpack, and climb rocks, just to name a few activities. As they have ventured out and away from the campsite, the risk of getting lost or hurt away from civilization has greatly increased. Survival gear and equipment are now an absolute must for anyone’s camping equipment. The following are some of the most important items that should be a part of every survival kit. These are just a few recommendations from the good folks at 4 Seasons Survival. com. 1. Spark Lite fire starter. The spark-lite is the official US military fire starter because it’s so easy to use, even when injured. 2. First Need water purifier. Although there are many filters on the market, there are only a handful that they would use in an emergency. First Need, because it is EPA approved, and so easy to use gets the nod. 3. Don’t Bite Me Patch. Each patch offers protection from biting insects for up to 36 hours. 4. QuickClot Silver. Stops moderate to severe bleeding until further medical help is available. Once again, these are just some suggestions for your survival kit. In this day and age however, people should be thinking more about a rescue than survival. So your preparedness should absolutely include some type of signaling device. Most people think in terms of electronic beacons or GPS systems, when looking into signaling. For most of us they are still cost prohibitive. The second and perhaps most relevant issue is that with a beacon or GPS unit, if you get separated from the party that has it, the device does you no good. So if dad has control of the device, and his teenage son wanders off and gets lost, searchers can locate dad but what about his son? I have come up with a very simple and cost-effective answer to all these concerns. The LifeTracker is a device that in case of an emergency will, with the pull of a cord, jettisons a heavy gauge red balloon attached to a 1000 ft fishing line up high enough for searchers or a rescue plane to see. The LifeTracker makes it possible for people to be found before panic ever sets in. It not only will save lives, but millions of dollars in search and rescue man hours. The LifeTracker is a series of 3 different products designed to locate anyone lost or in distress, in hours rather than days. The LifeTracker Belt, The LifeTracker Vest, and The LifeTracker flare Gun, can be offered inexpensively enough to allow an entire family to outfit themselves with The LifeTracker for what it might cost to purchase one GPS unit. It even has a 12″ solar light rope for night rescues. In this day and age of electronics, it’s refreshing to find something that is completely mechanical. There are no batteries or bad reception to worry about. Anyone venturing into the wilderness; campers, hikers, backpackers, and rock climbers, will want either the “Belt” or “Vest” as part of their everyday gear. The LifeTracker Belt . . . 4″ wide with pockets on the outside to store a thermal blanket and other survival supplies. The LifeTracker Vest. . . Using the same concept as the “Belt” the vests inner side unzips to release a folded lean-to tent complete with telescopic 3 ft poles. Some people will prefer a vest and are willing to pay extra for the complete survival package. This offers a great option, and like the “Belt”, is very marketable. The LifeTracker Flare Gun. . . Flare guns are very expensive and, of course, the flare only has a short life. With a small adjustment to the LifeTracker Device, it can easily be kept in a lightweight pistol, that can be stored in any backpack, vehicle, boat or plane. It might even have military use. If you would like more information, please go to: The LifeTrackerWhile you are there, please click on CONTACT and let me know what you think about my concept.
