iv just had a new kitchen put in, the cupboards are pine and the work tops are black, and i have grey floor. what colour would you paint the walls?
This backroom (white painted pine) was starting to fall apart. In a few years we’ll likely pull it down for an addition, but for now we want to use it.
We had pressure treated stairs put in last year after the old ones collapsed. We then noticed joist and panel rot, so the contractor did a great job repairing it, but now we have a backroom that has the bottom half in red cedar, the top half in peeling white paint over white pine, and stairs in raw pressure treated pine/fir/whatever.
The red cedar is so nice we don’t want to paint it. At most we’d stain it something not far off from it’s natural color. We’d like to paint the remaining wood to go well with the cedar and the rest of the house.
We have a cedar fence that we could also stain to match, but would also like to keep that as natural as possible. The back of the house is mostly light (i.e. yellow) brick. The ceiling, soffits, troughing of the backroom is white and the roof black.
Any design advice would be appreciated!!!
i am prepared to step in if he does not care for it well enough

I’m looking for a used car that will give 4 years or more of economical operation and maintenance. It needs to have 4 doors and a large trunk to carry my camping gear and the 2 large toolboxes I need every day for work. Must have automatic and cold air-conditioning, a smooth and quiet ride. Prefer buckets seats up front with center floor console and a v6 (or v8 even better). $5,000 is the top of what I can afford.
My current 1996 Dodge Intrepid has over 240,000 miles on it’s 3.5L v6 and gets an overall average of 24 mpg. A similar car is what I’m looking for – only with far fewer miles on it.
Ok, lets have a discussion about this. To you, what should a black belt represent (or any progression in belts)? What is the inherent meaning of it?
1) Should it represent time? I see a lot of schools in which almost everyone who spends a given time, say 3 years (just an example), will get a black belt.
2) Should it represent one’s ability to do Kata well?
3) Should it represent the effort one puts into the sport? ie- even if they’re not the best, well they put a nice effort in, so lets promote them anyway.
4) Exceptional skill. ie – if 100 people start as white belts, and all stick with it, on average only 10 will make it.
In my opinion, ALL THOSE ARE MEANINGLESS AND WORTHLESS. To me, progression in martial arts should represent one thing and one thing only: a person’s ability to defend themselves. That is what martial arts was developed for. I don’t care if your 12 year old can do a perfect Kata, break 3 #2 pine boards, and spent 5 years training, if he can’t stop an unarmed attacker he should not be a blackbelt. Maybe if he can break 3 oak boards I’d be impressed.
To me, 99% of belts are worthless because they represent a whole slew of silly things such as kata form, time spent at a dojo, etc that have nothing to do with martial art’s true purpose: self defense. If you want self confidence, go see a life counselor. If you want to learn respect, get better role models. If you want to learn to defend yourself and your family, train MA.
Now that you’ve patiently read my thoughts, why not share your thoughts on what belt progression should mean. Keep in mind true martial arts never used colored belts to represent status … belts were a marketting invention of recent times. Plenty of martial arts such as Muay Thai, Boxing, etc still don’t use them.
Thanks for the great replies everyone. Also keep in mind, a kata was never about just doing moves … or showing off to spectators. Kata started and were originally developed as a mechanism to practice self-defence. (I’m not talking about all the modern kata with triple spin kicks and glow-stick nunchucks you see now days at some tournies)
I will be a senior in high school when school starts. I want to become a fashion designer someday. I also want to be in an environment with sororities, clubs, a great historically black marching band, great education and programs that allow you to study abroad. What do you think of: Howard, Florida A&M, Hampton, Clark-Atlanta, Arkansas at Pine Bluff? I live in Texas but would like to go out of state.
Heroes
Eureka
Supernatural
The first seasons of each are only 20 dollars at target and I wanted a new show to watch. I know nothing about Eureka.
Is Heroes full of action, or mostly drama?
Is there anything scary, creepy, or eerie about Supernatural?
I have pine floors under ugly carpet in my dining room. I painted my chairs and my dry sink black. I have a area rug for under the table but it will not reach the dry sink. I was all set to paint my floor black but now I am not sure it will look right under my dry sink. Does anyone have any ideas for me? My walls are cream, and I have painted my crown molding black. All my picture frames are also black.
