PART 5 of 5: A complete series of videos by Nutnfancy and my friend chronicling firemaking in cold and snowy conditions using backpacking equipment only. The series shows the scenery, adventure, survival philosophy, gear observations, our standard joking around, and the good times with long time friend BuggetNuster (YouTube name) and Allie the Mountain Dog. We hiked into the snowy and cold Rocky Mountain bivouac location I had chosen earlier for my Wilderness Lean-To series of videos. A few shelter mods are discussed and shown but the focus of these vids is the making of the fire. I used few edits in the video making because I needed to demonstrate the work needed to create a sustainable fire in these conditions. I have found no shortcuts in the wood preparation for wilderness fire making. Several blades including the Ontario RTAK II, Ontario RAT-7, and KaBar Heavy Bowie are used to strip limbs and baton the logs into burnable pieces with the advantageous sharp edges. They performed exceptionally well in the outing and withstood some real tough use in 15ºF cold (shown of course!). The Sawvivor backpack saw again proved its worth as an accurate and indispensable wood cutter, lubricated with frequent sprays of WD-40. Fire tender used this time was Trioxane solid fuel cake and REI Stormproof matches. The resulting fire was quite manly and heated the Lean-To to incredible levels. Part 106. The Final Battle for Hoover Dam Begins (Eureka!) I’m now fully loaded for the final battle at Hoover Dam. Armed with plenty of rifles, energy weapons, explosives, and projectiles, I head to Hoover Dam with Ed-E and Boone. I sleep for 8 hours to get the “well-rested” bonus, then I tell Colonel Moore that I’m ready to report to General Oliver. I get whisked away to his office on the other side of the dam, and he thanks me for my contributions thus far, which levels me up! I choose the Concentrated Fire perk which gives me to-hit bonuses in VATS Then, we discover that Legionnairs broke through intake tunnels around the dam, so I have to do two things: Stop the Legionnaires from pouring into the power station through the tunnels, then head over the top of the dam to the Legate’s camp where the Legion is orchestrating this attack. And so it begins! I need to find the overflow control terminal so that I can turn on the turbines in the intake tunnels to stop the all the Legionnaires from slipping through (and turn them into mincemeat too). I begin at Power Plant 04, where Legionnaires plop right into the entrance. The NCR, the Brotherhood, and I all end their lives, and I loot them. Then, another party spills out of another tunnel, and we flatten them! I head into Power Plant 03, and again we face another detachment of Legionnaires. We start losing a few NCR soldiers, but we terminate this detachment too. I’m surprised by a second attack, and I’m caught off guard, oh …

The show starred Roy Rogers as a ranch owner, Dale Evans as the proprietor of the Eureka Cafe in fictional Mineral City and Pat Brady as Roys sidekick and Dale’s cook. Brady’s jeep Nellybelle had a mind of her own and often sped away driverless with Brady in frantic pursuit on foot. Animal stars were Roy’s Palomino Trigger and his German Shepherd, Bullet, the Wonder Dog. The series featured traditional cowboys and cowgirls but worked contemporary touches such as automobiles, telephone, and electric lighting into the mix. Typical episodes followed the stars as they rescued the weak and helpless from the clutches of dishonest lawmen, claim jumpers, rustlers and other “bad guys.” This was exactly like the plots Roy and Dale had used in their motion pictures. “Ranch War” Season 5 Episode 2 A young man and his wife are driven from their ranch by a greedy, unscrupulous rancher and his treacherous son.
