Taking our gear for a practice hike in Ricketts Glen State Park in preparation for our upcoming extended hike in New Hampshire’s White Mountains . We did a test run with full load out around the Falls Trail on day one and a more leisurely exploration around Adams Falls on day two. We definitely confused some people by hiking this area with our extended trip packs, but it’s better to find out how you can improve your system here than it is when you’re out in the woods on an extended stay (for two of us, this is will be our first backpacking experience). We did “cheat” and eat campfire hotdogs for dinner though, couldn’t resist! I’m planning a week long solo camping trip in the North Georgia mountains with barely anything more than a sleeping bag and a tarp, and would like some info on edible vegetation, and even possibly blueprints for traps and snares. If anything, please direct me to a website with the info.

Although you didn’t bring a thermometer, one of your friends says they can tell temperature by listening to the crickets If this is true, how do they find the temperature?

I am planning a trip along the Gabrielino Trail (28.5 miles) and am looking to complete this hiking/camping expedition in 4 days. I am trying to do this to practice some survival skills so I will be taking minimal gear, but you are welcome to bring whatever you wish. I just need someone to keep me company and none of my friends are interested. If someone out there is interested let me know.

Should I get a cold weather sleeping bag, or warm weather if I am camping in the summer months? Are higher altitudes colder even in the summer?
Specifically the Colorado area, in a designated campsite in Rocky Mountain National Park. Nothing too wild here (I’m a beginner, lol)…I won’t be hiking to the campsite. Thank you for the information, guys!
