Backcountry camping – what to do with the tent while hiking?

Me and a couple of friends are going hiking and camping in Red River Gorge in KY in a month or so and I was curious as to what is normally done with your camping supplies while out hiking? Is there some unspoken code of honor among back country campers that they don’t mess with anyone elses gear or is it common practice to pack up all your gear in the morning and store it in a hiking pack and take it with you?

This will be our first time camping in back country where rangers probably wont be around patrolling unlike some campgrounds near high traffic areas.

Taking our gear for a practice hike in Ricketts Glen State Park in preparation for our upcoming extended hike in New Hampshire’s White Mountains . We did a test run with full load out around the Falls Trail on day one and a more leisurely exploration around Adams Falls on day two. We definitely confused some people by hiking this area with our extended trip packs, but it’s better to find out how you can improve your system here than it is when you’re out in the woods on an extended stay (for two of us, this is will be our first backpacking experience). We did “cheat” and eat campfire hotdogs for dinner though, couldn’t resist! Oh, yeah and there was a lovely Severe Heat Warning this weekend, so this ended up being good worst case scenario practice as far as heat and hydration goes too. All we need now is to get severely rained on…

Me and a buddy are interested in hiking as much as we can before we leave. We are on Fort Lewis and both have experience hiking and have appropriate gear for the area. Mt. Ranier is snowed out until June-July. So any other good 2-4 day hikes? Travel isnt to big an issue so if its alittle far out thats ok…

Hiking and volunteering for three months in Tibet, what gear do I need?

We are spending time at some monasteries, and going to the base camp of everest. Most of the time we will be sleeping outside or with a host family. So a sleeping bag that Isn’t too heavy would be great too. I also need a backpack that holds all of my stuff comfortably (and fits a 5′3″ girl),
also ANY suggestions/ advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Does anyone know of any good weekend long hiking trails in Tennessee? I’m from South Carolina and me and my fiance are looking to go hiking. I’m an avid camper and I like to camp primitive (tent and self brought supplies). I’m looking for something moderate in regards to difficulty, with good views and nice camping spots along rivers or wooded areas, that are fairly secluded. Any information would be great. Thanks! Paid or free, doesn’t matter to me.

“Hiking the Na Pali Coast” Island of Kauai (day one)

Wilderness Adventure Documentary… this is part one of two that has been shot and edited featuring the beauty of Hawaii’s Na Pali Coast on the Island of Kauai. We started the hike close to dark enroute to Hanakapiai Beach. We decided to travel without any camping gear- no tent, no sleeping bags, no ground pad, very little food and no water except for what we found along the way. I wanted to see the famed Kalalau Valley and Beach before leaving Hawaii, and I also wanted to hone my skills of basic survival. So, we went for it.
