September 10, 2009, the boys from Sooke, BC drove over to Port Renfrew for a full day of fishing with John Wells, fishing guide and owner of Hindsight Fishing Charters. We headed out about 10 miles to Swiftsure bank where we saw 15 Humpbacks, two which fully breached out of the water, and thousands of birds and sea lions. We limited out with Halibut, the largest being 40 lbs. We ended up with 8-9 good sized Coho too. We had an extremely great time and Captain John Wells is an amazing fisherman, full of knowledge and will make your fishing trip a once in a lifetime opportunity. I can’t wait until the next time. No fishing license? Not a problem … for this weekend, at least
If you want to fish, this is the weekend to do it. No state fishing license will be required to fish or gather shellfish in waters that are open Saturday and Sunday. While no fishing license will be needed, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife points out all other regulations will still be in effect.
