From our tests with lists like this, open rates and actual sales are usually very low. Most lists seem to be highly recycled and quality is always a big question. Best way to get a quality list is build one yourself on your own site. We use http://www.bigresponse.com for our email marketing software. Good luck!
References :
http://www.bigresponse.com

Before you send out emails, make sure you have their permission first. There are many websites that you can get lists from, but many of these addresses have not given them permission, so anything you send will probably go straight to their junk folder.

Also, it'd be a good idea to use an email marketing client that can show you analytics and stats on how many opened, clicked, etc... That way if you do go with a batch list you'll be able to see how many people actually open your email.

Just think about how many emails like this you would actually open. I know I typically delete something I'm unfamiliar with... I just don't want you to spend a bunch of time on something with little return. Maybe give something like Twitter a try (if you haven't already). Search for people into outdoor sports, other companies that sell similar products, etc. and market that way... then ask for their email and start a genuine email campaign.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck!
References :
http://www.mailchimp.com

A great place to find this data is at ConsumerBase - http://www.consumerbase.com - which is a targeted mailing list company that specializes in email lists.
References :
www.consumerbase.com
