Entry from: Jaisalmer, India Entry Title: “Jaisalmer: camel safari in Thar desert” Entry: “After a night in a “sleeper” bus which we all agreed to call “bumper bus”.. 2 1m90 (6.3 ft?) guys trying to sleep in a little 1.3 sq meter compartment is not easy and if you have your friend’s toes almost into your nose and the bus jumping every second on the bumpy road then it becomes really painful..!! .. we reached the Thar desert, near the Pakistan border, North West of India. The 3 girls, David and I signed up for a 2 day camel safari in the desert. It’s a bit like riding a horse, difference is you can’t kick with the feet, just with the reins. it’s a bit more painful and your 4 foot companion is nothing else than a biiiiiig ******* machine!! We had fun reaching the night point where the guides set up amazing basic food for us around the fire and managed to get us some cold beer!!! Can’t tell you the taste of it in the middle of the desert, it’s something! Then, great night under the stars – glad I had my sleeping bag, it gets cold in the desert. The first thing i saw when I wake up was my camel name “rocket” which managed to brilliantly sneeze into my face! Then, after a few pics, a quick cleaning and a good breakfast we went back riding the camels and after a few races Rocket deserved its name! One of the …

Entry from: Shimla, India Entry Title: “Shimla – the capital of Himachal” Entry: “To kill time between the test matches in Chandigarh and Delhi, we decided to make our way to one last hill station before winter sets in – Shimla. Shimla is about 2000 metres above sea level and is the capital of the Himachal state. It is the largest hill station in India and was the Summer Capital of the Raj and it shows – the city just spreads out and over the tops of the mountains. But I am getting ahead of myself. The journey to Shimla itself is a feat. So we left Chandigarh in the morning for the interstate bus station to catch a bus to Kalka. Kalka has the railway station where the infamous “toy train” takes you to Shimla. The toy train is a smaller engine and locomotive with smaller cabin cars (only 5) that can maneuver through the small tunnels and corkscrew slowly up through the mountains. The journey from Kalka to Shimla by toy train takes about 5 hours. Keep in mind, since there is only 1 rail circulating through the mountains, trains from the other direction have to wait at small stations until the oncoming train passes. To avoid any accidents or collisions, the railway uses “Neal’s Token System”. At each station, the engineer will pick up a bag of brass disks that are used to gain access to the rail and …

Entry from: Aswan, Egypt Entry Title: “Felucca Cruise Day 2″ Entry: “I barely new where I was when I awoke, little less did I know what time it was. The sun appeared to be high in the sky already, and breakfast was in the making. Breakfast on our felucca consisted of tea, hardboiled eggs, bread, jam, cheese, yoghurt and bananas. Not to mention the chocolate wafers that Sobhi seemed to find anywhere at anytime. A final trip to the bathroom was offered before we commenced our second day of zigzagging down the Nile. Last night I had wondered how we would be able to pass below the bridge ahead of us. Though we were far from it, I could see that there was no way that huge sail would fit underneath. It took a while to get to it, but it also meant that I had longer time to ponder on how it would be possible. I was soon to find out. They simply flip the sail to a horizontal position in the very last second, and flow with the current till they have passed the bridge, and then flips the sail back up in its vertical state. After all that hard work it was time for an early day nap, a snack and a beer… Our lunch was being prepared while we sailed. By the time we made it to our mid day stop, the hardworking assistant was almost done , but not quite, so we had time to go for a swim in the Nile. I was very hesitant at …
