Take dishsoap, not for dishwashers, but regular dishsoap. They are built in to get rid of grease, which is what butter is. It's why you can't get the smell out. Rub the dishsoap into the area where the butter spilled. Take your finger tips and rub it in well, then rinse extremely well.

Now, once you have rinsed well... i mean RINSED COMPLETELY!!! go get some white vinegar and wash your sleeping bag in a washer wiht a half cup of the white vinegar. You can even spray down white vinegar on the sleeping bag if you'd like.

You should be smell free. White vinegar dries with no smell and cuts almost every smell out there. But if the grease isn't gone, the smell won't be gone! And it soaked in! So you'll have to work extra hard to really rub it out!

but worth it in the end.
Good luck!
References :
Pour liquid dish detergent (which are de-greasers, which butter is - grease) directly on it and rub in it with your finger or a toothbrush. Let it soak on it for an hour or so, then toothbrush it all around again. Rinse it with cold water until all the suds are gone, then do the same thing with a baking soda paste. That should get the smell and grease spot out. Good Luck!
